Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a simple morning habit: you swish a small amount of oil around your mouth for a while and then spit it out. The ritual comes from Ayurveda and is popular as an addition to brushing your teeth. At Boozyshop you'll find ready-to-use oil pulling mouth rinses, including ones with coconut oil, in fresh flavours such as mint, tea tree and orange. Oil Pulling: Rinsing Your Mouth with Oil

What Is Oil Pulling?

With oil pulling you "pull" oil through your mouth: between your teeth, along your gums and over your tongue. Traditionally, sesame oil or coconut oil was used. Ready-to-use oil pulling products are easier to use: they come pre-measured or in liquid form and have a flavour that makes rinsing more pleasant. Oil pulling doesn't replace brushing; it's an extra step in your oral care.

How Do You Do Oil Pulling?

  • Take a small amount: usually about a tablespoon, or the amount stated on the packaging.
  • Rinse slowly: move the oil gently around your mouth and between your teeth. Start with a few minutes and build up to the time the product recommends.
  • Spit it into the bin: not the sink, as oil can clog your drain. Don't swallow the oil.
  • Brush your teeth afterwards: rinse your mouth with water and brush as usual.

Oil Pulling Before or After Brushing?

Most people do oil pulling in the morning on an empty stomach, before brushing. That way you brush away the oil and anything it has loosened afterwards. It's easy to combine with other parts of your morning routine, such as showering or making breakfast.
