What exactly is a lip plumper?
It is a lip product with ingredients that briefly stimulate the circulation in your lips or help them hold on to extra moisture. The result is a lip that looks fuller and smoother. The effect is temporary — usually half an hour to a couple of hours — and fades by itself after that. A plumper doesn't change your lips permanently and is therefore no replacement for filler; it is make-up.
Tingle or peptides: two kinds
The tingling plumpers work with ingredients like menthol, cinnamon or peppermint oil. Those give a prickly or warm feeling on your lips — that is part of it and it is the sign that it is working. Some people love it, others find it too much; if you have sensitive lips, start with a mild version.

How do you use a lip plumper?
Apply it to clean lips; it works less well on a thick layer of balm. Don't use more than the recommended amount, because more product doesn't give more effect, only more tingle. If it feels unpleasant, wipe it off — it doesn't burn through and nothing lasting happens. For the best look you wear it over a lipstick or on its own, applied in the middle of your lips and worked outwards.
