Brow Pomade
Of all the brow products, a brow pomade gives the most colour and the cleanest edge. It is a thick, creamy paste in a pot that you apply with an angled brush, and that puts you in charge of exactly where your brow starts, how high the arch sits and where the tail ends. If you like a properly done brow, this is where you land.
Brow pomade: the sharpest shape you can make
What is a brow pomade exactly?
In terms of pigment, a pomade sits between makeup and dye. Dipping your brush once is enough for both brows, and the formula stays where you put it, even if you brush past it. Many pomades are water resistant once dry. That is precisely why they are so popular with people who have sparse brows: you build the brow on the skin rather than on the hairs.
Pomade, pencil or powder?
- Pomade gives the most pigment and the sharpest line. You need a brush for it and a little more practice.
- Pencil is more direct and more forgiving, but does not reach the same coverage.
- Powder gives the softest, most blended edge. The opposite of pomade.
Which brush do you need?
A thin, firm brush with angled bristles. The thinner the brush, the finer the line you can lay down. Most pomades come without a brush, the exception being the Everybody London Brow Pomade with Brush. Otherwise have a look at the brow brushes.
How do you apply brow pomade?
- Take very little product and wipe the brush on the rim of the pot. Too much is the most common mistake.
- Draw a thin line along the underside of your brow and then along the top. Leave the inner part empty for now.
- Fill the space between those two lines with whatever is left on the brush.
- Brush with a spoolie from the inside outwards so the start softens.
- Finish with a few separate hairs at the start of your brow. That is where it should stay lightest.
- Let it dry for half a minute before you put anything on top.
Pomade dried out?
That happens when the lid is not properly closed. A drop of face oil or a spritz of fixing spray in the pot and a quick stir usually makes it workable again. Do close the pot properly afterwards.
