Why wear a blush?

Colour on the cheeks does more than you would expect. It brings your face back to life after a foundation that evens out the skin but also flattens it, and it can steer the shape of your face. On a round face you sweep the colour diagonally upwards along the cheekbone, on a long face slightly more towards the sides, and on an angular face in circles on the apples of your cheeks. How do you apply blush?

Blush goes on top of foundation, concealer and powder. If you work with a powder blush, use a blush brush: sweep it lightly over the pan, tap off the excess powder and work in small, circular motions on the apples of your cheeks. A cream or liquid blush you apply with your fingers or a sponge, blending it out while the formula has not set yet. Always build up from a small amount; taking colour away is harder than adding it.

The texture decides the result. Powder blush mattifies and is the safest choice on oily skin. Cream blush melts into the skin and keeps dry skin supple.
